How to read buy, hold and sell signals on AksjeNet

Every stock on AksjeNet gets a model score and a signal each trading day. Here is what the numbers mean, how they are calculated, and how to use them as a starting point for your own judgement.

With more than 200 stocks on Oslo Børs, it is impossible to follow them all closely. The model scores and signals on AksjeNet are designed to help you find the stocks that deserve a closer look, and to see how the stocks you own compare with the rest of the market.

The model score

The system calculates a score for every stock on three time horizons:

HorizonWhat it captures
Short termRecent moves and short-term momentum
Medium termThe trend over the coming months. Used for ranking and the signal
Long termThe long-term development

A positive score means the model sees strength, a negative score that it sees weakness. The further from zero, the clearer the assessment.

The score is calculated from structured market data such as price development, trends and other calculated fields. The full method is described on the methodology page.

The signal

The signal is derived from the medium-term score:

Medium-term scoreSignal
2 or higherBUY
Between −2 and 2HOLD
−2 or lowerSELL

When the three horizons point the same way, the picture is clearer than when they diverge. A stock with BUY on the medium term but a weak short-term score may, for example, be in a strong trend that has paused.

The ranking

All active stocks on Oslo Børs are ranked by the medium-term score. The ranking shows where a stock stands relative to the others, and the sector ranking shows where it stands among companies in the same industry. That is useful when comparing stocks affected by the same factors.

How to use the signals

  1. As a filter. Use the ranking and signals to find stocks worth a closer look.
  2. Check the company. Read the company profile, the latest quarterly reports and the key figures. Understand why the stock has its signal.
  3. Look at liquidity. Small stocks with low turnover can swing sharply in score and can be hard to trade at a good price.
  4. Consider your portfolio. A stock with BUY is not necessarily right for you if you already hold a lot in the same sector.
  5. Follow the development. The score is updated every trading day. A signal can change quickly when the market turns.

The limitations

Always check the date of the latest update on the stock page. The signals are based on closing prices and are updated after the trading day.
